Ana Tereza Basilio

With a law degree from Universidade Cândido Mendes do Rio de Janeiro – UCAM (December 1989) and a graduate’s degree in US Law from the University of Wisconsin, Mrs. Basilio was a partner at the Sergio Bermudes Law Firm from 1990 to 1998; an international partner at the Baker & McKenzie Law Firm, answering for Brazil in the Civil & Commercial Litigation department from July 2002 to December 2005; and a partner at the Andrade e Fichtner Law Firm in the Civil & Commercial Litigation and Arbitration departments from January 2006 to December 2008. In January 2009, she founded the Basilio Advogados law firm.  

She has been a member of the Arbitration panel of the Mediation and Arbitration Center of FIRJAN, FENASEG and the Commercial Association of the State of Rio de Janeiro since 2003; of the Permanent Corporate Law Forum of the School of Magistrates of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ) since 2009; of the Administrative Law Committee of the Brazilian Lawyers Institute since 2015; of the Advisory Council of the Brazilian Mediation and Arbitration Chamber (FIRJAN/ACRJ/FENASEG) since 2015; of the Editorial Board of Revista Jurídica de Seguros, CNseg since 2015; Vice-President of the Telecommunications Law Committee of the Brazilian Mediation and Arbitration Chamber (FIRJAN/ ACRJ/FENASEG) since 2015; Member of the Advisory Council of Revista Justiça e Cidadania since 2018; and Secretary Officer at the Brazilian Lawyers Institute, elected in April 2018 for the 2018-2019 term.

From December 2010 to July 2015, she was a Judge of the Regional Electoral Court of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and from March 2011 to December 2013, she was the dean of the Escola Judiciária Eleitoral do Rio de Janeiro (EJE-RJ). From 1993 to 2001, she taught Civil Law in the Graduate’s Program of the Escola Superior de Direito. She was part of the Organizing Committee for the V Competitive Selection Process for Federal Judges of the 2nd Federal Court of Appeals (TRF 2), nominated by the Federal Board of the Brazilian Bar Association (2004/2005). She was part of the Examining Board for the VI Competitive Selection Process for Federal Judge of the 2nd Federal Court of Appeals, nominated by the Federal Board of the Brazilian Bar Association (2005/2006). And since 2004, she lectures as Visiting Professor in the Graduate’s Program on Electoral Law and Arbitration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (RJ).

She was President of the Mediation and Arbitration Chamber of the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association from December 2004 to December 2006; President of the Corporations Committee of the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association from October 2003 to December 2006; Vice President of the Arbitration Committee of the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association from October 2003 to December 2006; Director of the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association from 2000 to 2003 and 2003 to 2006; Member of the Committee to Stop Piracy and Unfair Competition of the Federal Board of the Brazilian Bar Association from July 2005 to December 2006; Member of the Editorial Board of the Revista de Arbitragem da Revista de Direito Mercantil e Mercado de Capitais; Member of the Special Committee to Fight Illegal Markets of the Federal Board of the Brazilian Bar Association from 2008 to 2010; Member of the Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (ADR) committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) headquartered in Paris; President of the IAB’s Electoral Law Committee from 2013 to 2016; Head of Mediation and Arbitration at the Brazilian Lawyers Institute from 2016 to 2018; President of the Mediation and Arbitration Committee of the Brazilian Lawyers Institute since 2018; and Vice-President of the Rio de Janeiro Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association, elected in November 2018. Nominated in 2019 as a Member of the Permanent Transparency and Propriety Forum of the Escola de Magistratura do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – EMERJ.
